The Northern Territory is home to a vibrant arts community, including 5,000 Indigenous artists.

The Museum and Art Gallery of the Northern Territory provides an overview of Aboriginal art. Visit Raintree Aboriginal Art Gallery, Maningrida Art Shop, Framed and Batchelor Institute’s Coomalie Cultural Centre (en route to Litchfield National Park) to further explore prints, bark paintings, carvings and weavings.

For contemporary dance theatre, try Indigenous company Baru Kadal. Applauded performing arts company Tracks blends Indigenous, multicultural, youth and seniors themes in its sweeping outdoor shows.

Brown’s Mart is central to Darwin’s wider arts community. A performance venue and gallery, this historic building administers the Darwin Fringe Festival, and Fist Full of Films, a short film competition and festival.

Other arts highlights include: the enormous Darwin Festival; energetic theatre from Business Unusual Theatre, Cavenagh Theatre and Darwin Theatre Company; and innovative fine art at Gallery Philip Neville and Karen Brown Gallery.
